Red Rocks Fire Protection Services was co-founded in 2010 by Brian Kakac and his father, John Kakac, with a shared vision centered on hard work, accountability, family values, and protecting people through dependable life safety services.
John played a foundational role in shaping both the company and the culture it was built upon. Known for his incredible work ethic, commitment to family, and willingness to sacrifice for the people around him, John helped establish the standards and values that continue to guide Red Rocks Fire Protection Services today. His leadership, mentorship, and vision left a lasting impact on both the business and the people within it.
Although John has since passed, his influence remains deeply woven into the foundation of the company. The principles he believed in—integrity, loyalty, discipline, hard work, and taking care of people—continue to shape the way RRFPS operates every day.
Today, Brian Kakac proudly carries that legacy forward as the CEO and Owner of Red Rocks Fire Protection Services, leading the company with the same values and principles his father helped instill from the beginning. Brian’s leadership style reflects a strong commitment to teamwork, mentorship, accountability, and supporting the people around him, both clients and employees alike.
Beyond business, Brian has a strong background in coaching basketball and lacrosse, experiences that reflect many of the same principles his father instilled in him early in life: discipline, teamwork, accountability, leadership, preparation, and showing up for others. That coaching mindset carries directly into the culture at RRFPS, where employees are supported, encouraged, challenged to grow, and treated like family.
From the beginning, the vision for RRFPS was clear: to build a company focused on protecting people, delivered through accountability, reliability, and a higher standard of partnership.
As Brian worked closely with property owners and managers across Colorado, he saw a consistent challenge. Managing life safety systems wasn’t just about inspections and equipment; it meant coordinating multiple vendors, keeping up with evolving fire codes, and carrying the responsibility of compliance across complex properties. Too often, clients were left reacting to issues instead of staying ahead of them.
That realization led to the development of a better approach.
Brian built Red Rocks Fire Protection Services around a One Vendor Life Safety Solution, a model designed to simplify compliance, streamline communication, and provide one trusted partner responsible for all life safety systems within a building.
This wasn’t just about convenience; it was about accountability.
With one team overseeing fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, backflow prevention, kitchen hood suppression systems, bi-directional amplification (BDA) systems, area of refuge communication systems, and monitoring, clients no longer have to manage multiple relationships or worry about gaps in coverage. Instead, they gain a coordinated, proactive partner focused on keeping their properties safe and compliant.
What truly sets Brian and the RRFPS team apart is its commitment to advocacy.
He dedicates significant time to staying ahead of changing fire codes, legislation, and jurisdictional requirements, ensuring clients are not only compliant, but informed and prepared. Johns Truck
For more than ten years, my dad, John, talked about finding an old-school pickup truck, restoring it, and putting the Red Rocks Fire Protection name on the doors. He loved classic vehicles and believed a truck like that would represent who we are as a company: hard-working, dependable, and built to last.
Like many great ideas, life got busy, and he never had the opportunity to make it happen.
In 2022, we lost John.
A few months later, in January 2023, I attended an automobile auction. Anyone who has spent time at auctions knows that early Friday mornings can be the best time to find a deal. If a vehicle crosses the block before the crowd arrives, sometimes you get lucky.
As I walked through the staging lanes that morning, I spotted an old pickup truck. Something about it immediately reminded me of my dad and the dream he had talked about for so many years.
I took my favorite seat in the auction lane, waited for the truck to come across, and, just as I had hoped, there wasn’t much bidding. I was able to buy it at a great price.
The truck made its way back to Colorado, where we restored it, added Red Rocks Fire Protection graphics to the doors, and gave it the purpose my dad had always envisioned.
Today, you’ll find John’s truck at trade shows, community events, customer visits, and other marketing events. It draws people in because of its classic style, but it means much more to us than that.
At Red Rocks Fire Protection Services, we don’t simply see it as an old truck.
We see it as John’s truck.
More Than A Truck — A Lasting Legacy
For our team, it serves as a daily reminder of where we came from and the values that continue to guide us. It represents the work ethic, integrity, humility, and commitment to people that John demonstrated throughout his life. Those same principles have become the foundation of Red Rocks Fire Protection Services and continue to shape the way we serve our customers, support one another, and do business every day.
One of our core values is One Family, and there is perhaps no better symbol of that than this truck. It reminds us that Red Rocks was built on family, strengthened by relationships, and continues to grow because every employee, customer, and partner becomes part of something bigger than themselves.
John may no longer be with us, but his legacy rides with us everywhere this truck goes. Every mile it travels is a tribute to the dream he never had the chance to complete, and a reminder that we will continue building Red Rocks Fire Protection Services with the same character, heart, and dedication that he inspired from the very beginning.
